The Tangled Web's 2009 Costume Contest
(it's a work-in-progress so be patient)
All these contestants are listed in the order that they came in and signed up. Winners will be announced at the bottom of the page.
Emily Hoffman came as Lime from Saber Marionette J. Her costume was great it was completely hand-made right down to her 'squeaky' shoes.
Lauren Hunter came as Madame Red from the Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler) Manga. Lauren's costume was beautiful and was also hand-made. The were layers upon layers of skirt under there
Nicolas Young came as Lock from The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Angela Sterling came as a Snow Elf Princess.
Lynda Sterling came as Amberle (from Shanara).
Jonathan Sterling came as a happy Barbarian.
Matthew Sterling came as a Ranger.
Matthew Tyler Sanders came as Itachi Uchiha from the Naruto Anime and Manga. (his costume was completely home-made also)
Jeremy and Lisa Chapman came as The Big, Bad, Wolf and Red Riding Hood.
Matthew Owens came as 'Human' Hero and Megan Reynolds came as a Goddess.
Ria Wiles came as Sara Pezzini/Withcblade. She made the whole darn thing from scratch. (I never thought I would hear the words "Battle-Panties" used in conversation but I did on Saturday)
Jeana Porter came as Chi-Chi from the Dragonball Z Anime & Manga.
Matthew Kimbrell came as Nightwing in a completely home-made Costume.
Daniel Nolan came as Ichigo Kurasaki from the Bleach Anime & Manga.
Katherine, Carmen, and Kailey Jolly came as Tinkerbell, Sleeping Beauty, and Minnie Mouse respectively. They were very cute!
Alex Clark also came as Ichigo Kurasaki from Bleach.
Annie Fitch came in as Poison Ivy in her home-made costume. She dried the leaves, glued them on and then used Cake Icing Dye to dye her skin green.
Derek Wetter came as Wolverine (with real Sideburns grown for the costume)
Mike Hyde and Dusty Jones came as The Monarch's Henchmen from the Venture Brothers TV Show. The Henchmen were a big hit all afternoon!
Eric Sloan came as Coop (from Megas XLR)
Lauren Ketwitz came as a Diva Devil but she looked too cute to be bad. Her sister, Michelle Ketwitz came as Minnie Mouse and she was adorable.
Katelyn came as Hermione Grainger from the Harry Potter series.
Teona Clark came as a Weeping Angel. Her 'granite statue' look was achieved by smearing herself with cigarette ashes. Yikes! It looked amazing in person but it still gave me the 'willies' knowing what it was.
Toni Chavez came as Mushroom Alice in Wonderland and she was as happy as could be!
Kate Monahan came as Ninjette from the excellent Empowered series of graphic novels by Adam Warren.
Quincy Jackson came as the "Q-Fairy" Quincy scared me lots that day!
Samantha Taylor came as a Goth Vampire.
Casey Roan came in a home-made Riddler costume. The PVC cane was a nice touch.
Danielle Gardner came as Robin Hood.
Sara Bell came as an Eskimo but Poison Ivy said that she was really on of Mr. Freeze's Henchmen. Sara wouldn't pose alone so the whole gang got involved.
Joshua Kirkendall brought a Witch with him. (but she seemed really nice to me)
Travis Sanford came all the way from Scotland to visit our 'wee little store' as "McCloud Strife".
Chris Horton didn't enter but I put him up anyway. Ha!
Finally, Doug, Shelley, and Owen Walker came as Frankenstein's Monster, Bride of Frankenstein, and Little Frankie. They had one of the best pictures of the event.
Before we get to the winners, I want to take a minute to thank everyone who came out and helped us celebrate 13 years of Comics and Fun! You're more than customers, you're part of our extended family and we appreciate you all! There were lots of great costumes and I just wish that there could be more prizes so that we could give everyone who entered something...but I just can't afford that much Love!
Like every year, this contest was REALLY close. To get a clear winner, we had to add a 5th judge to break the tie. Each year, we get our judges to narrow their Top 5 down to their Top 3, and then to their favorite to get our winner. Our 4 original judges gave us 4 different #1 votes leaving things a little murky. The 4 original First Place votes were for The Monarch's Henchmen, Weeping Angel, Witchblade, and Poison Ivy. The 5th Judge broke the tie for 1st place, but there were still lots of ties for the rest of the Top 5. Due to all of the ties (and the lack of time available to break them), I'm going to award prizes to the Top 9 costumes. I should note that 5th through 9th places were all basically a tie!! And now for the winners:
1st Place - Annie Fitch as Poison Ivy. She wins the Grand Prize of a Sony Playstation 3 Uncharted Bundle.
2nd Place - Ria Wiles as Witchblade. She wins a special Prize that I picked just for her. Shhhh! It's a secret!
3rd Place - Teona Clark as Weeping Angel. She wins a $25 Tangled Web Gift Card.
4th Place - The Monarch's Henchmen (who made MANY people laugh and smile) They also Win a $25 Tangled Web Gift Card.
5th Place (Tie) - Lauren Hunter as Madame Red
5th Place (Tie) - The Walker Family as The Frankenstein Family
5th Place (Tie) - Casey Roan as The Riddler
5th Place (Tie) - Emily Hoffman as Lime (from Saber Marionette J)
5th Place (Tie) - Derek Wetter as Wolverine.
Thanks to EVERYONE who came out! It's not too early to start working on NEXT YEAR'S COSTUME!!!
